What this picture reminds me of specifically is the smell of the San Gabriel mountain range in my home, Southern California. It’s quite the refreshing mixture of sage, pine, and various other shrubs and trees which the distinct air of elevation soothe. This particular ride entailed riding about 20 miles from my house to the base of HWY 39/ Azusa Cyn, summiting the entire HWY and traversing this patch of hardened ice in the shade onto HWY 2 and into La Quinada/ Flintridge.
There are some rides that initially seemed impossible when I first started pedaling about 8 years ago. Perhaps this is the meaning of life itself; to push yourself as far as you can for as long as you can. So far this is the most elevation gain of any single ride i’ve done, topping out at about 11,500 ft and 130 miles round-trip. This picture always reminds me that nothing is impossible with concentrated and deliberate effort.
